Holiday Ornament ShowWe will open our annual “Holiday Ornament Show” with a reception at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 4. Each one-of-kind ornament has been crafted by one of the Artworks' member artists. The show will continue through Sunday, December 24.

The show concludes on Sunday, November 26.

Johnny Appleseed FestivalThe second annual Johnny Appleseed Festival will be hosted by Orchard Artworks and the Bryn Athyn Cathedral on Saturday, September 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Festival events will take place at the Artworks. The Artworks, in celebration of its fifth year anniversary, will hold an opening reception for a members’ show entitled "Autumn at the Orchard" highlighting the multi-media creations of 30 current artists. The show will continue through Saturday, September 30. Other events include a Children’s Clothesline Exhibit of drawings and paintings about Johnny Appleseed by last year’s Bryn Athyn Church Elementary School fifth and sixth graders and a sale of home-made apple pies. The Cathedral Book Room will offer a video and children’s books featuring Johnny Appleseed. Between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Eric Rohtla will offer apple juice tastings as he
demonstrates his antique apple press, and an apple tree will be planted.
Bookbinding for Beginners - Part IIThis workshop for adults and children 10 years and up, will also be taught by printmaker/book artist Nicole Patrice Dul, M.F.A. The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, August 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fee of $40.00 includes materials, handouts, and instruction. Preregistration by July 29 is required. Students will learn several basic bookbinding methods as they create decorative books for personal sketching or writing or for one-of-a-kind gifts. Each workshop will explore different techniques.
Stationery and StampingThis two-part creativity workshop for adults and children 12 years and older, will be led by book artist/printmaker Nicole Patrice Dul, M.F.A., and rubber stamp artist Sylvia Glassman at Orchard Artworks, on Sunday, July 30, 2006, from noon to 4:00 p.m. Participants will have an opportunity to create unique cards, stationery, and envelopes. In Part I Dul will teach students how to carve their own stamp blocks and construct special occasion cards, envelopes, and personalized stationery. In Part II Glassman will introduce students to several basic stamping techniques to enhance their handcrafted work. The fee of $50 includes materials, handouts, and instruction. From Woodcut to Artist’s BookThis is a three-part workshop for adults and children 12 years and up, and will be taught by printmaker/book artist Nicole Patrice Dul, M.F.A., on three consecutive Wednesdays, July 26, August 2, and August 9, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Orchard Artworks. This creative series will introduce the basics of woodcut and relief printing by hand. Students will explore the use of woodcut as a narrative form and be able to create their own artist’s book.

Paintings along the Pennypack - plein aire oilsOrchard Artworks announces the opening of “Paintings along the Pennypack,” a series of plein aire oils by member artist Dorothy Smith. Inspired by the beauty and serenity of public spaces and their importance in daily life, Smith’s paintings focus on the Pennpack Ecological Restoration Trust and Lorimer Park in Montgomery County and Fox Chase Farm and Pennypack Park in Philadelphia. Romantic TreasuresOrchard Artworks resumes its Sunday at the Artworks series with “Romantic Treasures,” a show featuring works by two member artists, Joy Stevens and Nicole Patrice Dul. Stevens’ work includes vintage jewelry and contemporary styled handbags using fabric, beads, flowers, and/or handpainted motifs. Dul, a printmaker, creates handmade journals, notebooks, and memory boxes using original cover designs.
