Artist: Ellen Pine Litwin
Medium: Clay

The primary focus of my work in clay is the functional pot, formed on the wheel. The plastic quality of stoneware clay in particular, that freezes a moment in time, has led me to use forms that are often altered after throwing. This creates variations in the surface that invites interaction between the surface of the pot when fired.

I choose to work with functional objects, such as teapots, enjoying a connection with the lives of the people who use them. Generally, my work is designed for its tactile qualities, as much as the visual.

In the past several years I have also begun to expand my exploration of design and surface through the production of tiles and mosaics.

Presently, I am teaching classes for adults and children at the Cheltenham Center for the Arts.
