I work primarily with cut stained glass and clear beveled pieces intermixed with glass and
crystal jewels, wiring, brass findings, and lead castings. Some pieces are open form; others
have background glass and/or framing.
I use published patterns, combinations of patterns, or just a piece of a pattern, as well
as freely constructed pieces. Most of the time I use the Tiffany style copper foil method.
Sometimes I use lead came for strengthening and framing.
My background includes a major in fashion design and dressmaking at Drexel University and
subsequent studies in clay and watercolors at Fleisher’s and Hudson River Valley Art Workshops.
However, the stained glass class I took in the early 1990s became the
inspiration for the work I do today.
Some of my favorite glass comes from a collection of “uncats” (uncatalogued)--one-of-a-kind,
hand-made experimental sheets made by various glass manufacturers. Many of these pieces are
beautiful enough to be framed uncut. My work includes panels, small windows, sun catchers,
ornaments, and three-dimensional pieces such as stars, boxes, candle holders, and vases.
I have also tried glass fusing, glass painting, and layering, which I plan to learn more
about and include in my work. I am currently planning some mixed media pieces that will
combine glass and clay beads, fiber, or other materials with my cut glass.
