Sylvia Glassman, a Cheltenham Township resident, became a participating artist at Orchard Artworks in November 2002. As a paper craft artist specializing in the use of rubber stamps, Sylvia creates handmade note cards. "I envision each card as a small piece of art," says Sylvia, "something a recipient would want to add to his/her keepsake collection. I am delighted when people tell me they frame my cards or add notes to the recipients that the card must be saved."

She draws on a variety of art materials and techniques (e.g., inks, markers, pencils, watercolor, embossing powders, chalks, sponges, collage) to achieve the finished one-of-a-kind product. In addition to continually offering new card designs from an ever-growing collection of rubber stamps, Sylvia also responds to the greater challenge of exploring variation that will bring a fresh look to previously used favorites.

Over the years Sylvia has expanded her stamping artistry beyond cards to boxes, decorative push pins, small framed art, letter holders, hanging ornaments, and a variety of novelty items that currently include themed mannequins, "book" boxes, and shelf adornments she calls "musings." "Trying new endeavors is fun but something frustrating," she says.

For 10 years prior to joining the Artworks, Sylvia was the sole proprietor of "Sylvia Glassman Communications." She provided small business owners and nonprofit organizations with graphic design, writing, and editing services to support or enhance marketing objectives via printed materials. "My goal was to bring a personalized, comprehensive, and creative approach to every project." Now, as "Sylvia G., she applies that approach to her work at the gallery. In June of 2007 she participated in her first show at the Artworks, "Inspirational Images: Photographs & Cards."

Sylvia’s background includes fine art classes at her alma mater, Arcadia University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English; a one year course in layout and production at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, and a variety of classes taken over the years that include computer graphics, sculpting, stained glass, painting, jewelry making, ceramics, collage, and, of course, rubber stamping.

Sylvia welcomes inquiries about her work and can be contacted through the gallery or directly, as indicated below.
